Roof Cleaning Techniques

Roof Cleaning is mainly the process of getting rid of moss, mildew, algae, mildew, and lichen from flat roofs. It is done so that the life expectancy of the roof is increased. Also cleaning lichens from roofing can reduce deterioration of metal roofs. Cleaning can even prolong the lifespan of a roof. The life expectancy of a roof depends on the extent to which it is maintained.

There are many different types of roof cleaning equipment that are used nowadays. A few examples include rotary washing machines, leaf blowers, steamers, gas mixers, and dump bins. Each of them has their own advantages and disadvantages. Rotary washing machines can be used on all types of roofs; the only limitation is the height of the roof. They can remove algae, mildew, moss, fungi, and lichens.

A pressure washer is another popular form of roof cleaning equipment. This consists of a small water tank, a nozzle, a wand, and a nozzle with a high-pressure head. Using the pressure washer you can wash off moss, lichens, fungus spores, and algae. The pressure from the wand is often enough to cause the damage to the roof that you want to get rid of.

Another method of roof cleaning is by using a rotary scrubber. You can easily get one from your local hardware store. It looks similar to a riding lawn mower with its motor. The rotary scrubber shoots out a circular motion that causes a whacking action that removes the moss growth on the roof. It is important to apply the scrubbing agents in a downward motion to prevent damage to the shingles or tiles.

It is important to clean the roof after heavy rains. The moss and dirt will collect on the rafters and roof supports if you do not clean them after a rainfall. Another method that you can use to clean the roof is to spray a hose of water on it. This will loosen up the soil that is stuck between the tiles. After you have washed the dirt away, you can clean the roof yourself.

As mentioned earlier moss and algae are the two main concerns for your roof. Algae is known to cause damage to the roof by growing on it. The green algae grows on the shingle and is most common in moist places like under eaves, in or around the valleys. The black algae grows on the flat parts of the roof and on the shingles. The white algae grows on the upper portions of the roof. These algae can cause your roof to decay.

There are different types of fungi that cause wood rot and one of them is the moss. The fungi that are known to cause wood rot are Stachybotrys Chartarum. If your roof has moss or dampness, it will be more susceptible to having problems with mold or mildew.

There is a chemical called Chloraseptic that is used to deodorize the roof. You must apply this chemical roof cleaning solution to the areas of the roof that has moss and algae growth. When this chemical is applied the moss and the algae will die. You should only use this chemical as a last resort because it could damage your roof or may also make the damage go worse. It is better to prevent damage than repair the damage after it happens.

The third type of chemical that is commonly used by many roof cleaners is sodium hypochlorite. Sodium hypochlorite is a stronger version of the chemical that Chloraseptic uses. This chemical is mixed with the water and then is sprayed onto the roof. Sodium hypochlorite has a very strong oxidizing effect so it will destroy any cell that it comes in contact with.

The last type of chemical roof cleaning solvent is the asphalt sealer. The asphalt is sprayed on top of the roof shingles to protect them from damage. This chemical also protects the metal underneath the asphalt from becoming damaged. However, you must be very careful when using asphalt sealer on metal because it can be harmful if too much is applied.

Some of these organic ingredients are readily available at home supply stores. Others must be purchased through a specialty supplier. Remember that organic ingredients are much more effective at getting rid of roof stains damage and algae than synthetic products. If you must use a synthetic product, make sure that it is certified by the roofing industry to ensure that it is made for all types of weather and environments.
